Fully customizable, database-style song discovery.
Our database pulls from both streaming platform libraries and performer's rights organizations like ASCAP. Every composition and artist is robustly tagged, so you can search for music by location, genre, subject matter, and more.Find the best indie band from your hometown, the heaviest black metal band in Rwanda, or a list of every song ever published about tardigrades. And save them to any streaming platform you use with just a click.

See any artist's catalogue uncluttered by fifteen million "Best Of" compilations and new release versions that are (slowed plus reverb). If a recording is found to have used generative AI, it will be flagged as such.By default, Musicbox is organized by song or composition. In song view, you can see every officially-published recording, re-release, and cover of that song, as well as official lyrics, behind the scenes commentary, and other bonus content provided by artists or community members.

HOW WILL THIS MAKE MONEY?
We offer paid subscription services for both listeners and artists/managers. We anticipate that the bulk of our income will come from artists and managers rather than listeners, and we're okay with that. We want our core services to music explorers--the search engine and song database--to be free forever.Eventually we will also earn commission through affiliate links and digital merchandise sales.

Doesn't Discogs do this already?
No.Musicbox catalogues songs and compositions, while Discogs catalogues concrete physical sound recordings like CDs and record releases. Discogs is mostly useful to record collectors and resellers, rather than to digital explorers. Discogs has no directory of individual songs, no ability for artists to customize their pages, limited community features, and no compatibility with any kind of streaming service.We pull some kinds of data from Discogs, and would be interested in partnering with them in the future, but Musicbox fills a different niche.Discogs also does not offer the data insights, promotional expertise, or web hosting packages that we offer to our music industry clients.
Why do you think music industry professionals will pay for your services?
Because we would.Musicbox is developed by music industry scholars, business analysts, and musicians, and we're keen enough on having access to these services that we're building them just for ourselves. It's much easier to just toss us a few bucks than to build these tools from the ground up... trust us!
How do you plan to build up a userbase?
If Spotify Wrapped has taught us anything, it's that people love a chance to show off their listening tastes on social media. We're developing a plan to build buzz for our invite beta right now, with a strategy involving direct messaging, brand ambassadors, highly shareable post templates, and distinct branding featuring a game-ified custom user avatar that will eventually pave the way for monetizable digital merchandise.
